Resume software, template, or a professional resume writer?
Which produces the most effect end-product?

Through my years of experience, I have learned that for most people, the process of creating an effective resume is often a case of not being able to "see the forest for the trees."

Trying to economize on something as important as your resume can be an costly mistake.

An "effective" resume takes much fore-thought, planning, and choosing of the right format and words - editing and re-editing, tweaking until everything is just right.  Such cannot be accomplished using resume software or a simple fill-in-the-blank template.

Jobs are hard enough to find these days even when your resume is perfect.

Here are several important reasons for letting a professional help you.

People often don't see themselves the way a Hiring Agent does.  You've heard the expression, "It's hard to see the forest for the trees."  In the case of putting together a resume, that fact could not be more true.

A Professional Resume Writer as a third party, is outside the forest as it were, and is trained to spot what makes you unique.  They can identify and maximize your qualifications, experience and education.  If you have only 15 seconds to impress, why not use them to the full.

For instance, a professional will know ...

                *  How to write your all-important Heading, so as to captivate and WOW the Hiring Agent within those crucial first 15 seconds.

                *  Whether to focus on, or downplay your Work History.

                *  How to amplify the Qualifications you have acquired throughout your career, your skillsets, using action verbs and descriptive adjectives.

                *  How to highlight your Experience so that you will stand out from other applicants.

                *  Which text is most effective in paragraph form or put into a bulleted list.

Keywords, A Crucial Consideration in your Resume

To increase your resume's potential for success, important keywords must be strategically placed throughout the resume, but not overdone.  If prepared improperly, the result can be the opposite of what you desire!

Use of the Internet has dramatically changed the process of applying for a job.  Nowadays there are career services
& job boards and that offer automated online resume submission processing.

If not formatted correctly, however, your efforts may be in vain.

ASCII Formatting.  What is it, and why it is so important for today's job search?

Two very important rules for internet submissions:

Rule #1)  Re-format your resume to ASCII. (Pronounced as-kee, it stands for American Standard Code for Information Interchange.)
ASCII formatting takes out all the pretty fonts, the bold & italics, and makes your document read as simple 'Plain Text'.

Learn a few basics and you are set to go.

Rule #2)  Never send your resume as an Email attachment.
Due to the fear of computer viruses, many companies have installed software that will automatically delete any email with an attachment. You would never know.

The surest way to get your resume seen is to Copy and Paste it into the body of your email, placing it right below a brief, well-worded Cover Letter.

Play it smart in your job search.  Be ready, and don't miss out on any opportunities.  It may only come around once.

Ensure your resume will be as effective as it can be.
